Welcome to the International English Language Institute (IELI) at Hunter College.
What is the IELI?
The International English Language Institute (IELI) is part of Hunter College of the
University of New York (CUNY). We have offered courses in English as a Second
(ESL) since 1950. The IELI serves thousands of students every year, in courses
from Beginner English to Bridge-to-College Level English. We enroll New York City
residents, visitors on tourist visas, diplomats and international students. We are
authorized to issue I-20 forms.
The IELI offers full-time and part-time classes in order to:
Prepare students to enter an American college or university.
Develop accuracy for academic or business communication.
Develop fluency and confidence in social and business situations.
The IELI is located in the heart of Manhattan.
We are on the Upper East Side, close to public transportation, Central Park, shopping,
restaurants, museums and theaters.
The IELI is truly international.
Our students come from over 70 different countries around the world.
The IELI is here to help you.
Our online registration system makes it easy to register from anywhere in the world,
our registration staff can help you choose and register for classes in person. Our
services department can help you with all visa requirements, and our academic
guide you through the college application process and help you decide which classes
IELI are best for you.
The IELI program is both challenging and fun.
Our faculty uses the latest textbooks and technology to give you a first-class
learning experience. Social events include cultural outings, coffee hours, holiday
parties, and day trips to places of general interest.
