Perhaps. But showing serves various purposes, and if we fail to consider what those are then we fail to consider how showing can be manipulative. Consider for instance the way that data can be misleadingly presented or "shown." Likewise, logic of various sorts can be applied to contexts where it's not appropriate and distort speaker meaning. 

There is lots of CT scholarship on this. We can distinguish between showing and manipulation but if we neglect their connection we will not prepare our students for critical thinking in real contexts.
