Great opportunity for anyone interested in early childhood education, nutrition education, gardening ed and how all those things can be put together. Volunteer Program at P.S. 7/M.S.7 and Global Tech in East Harlem, NY!

*About Edible Schoolyard NYC*
Edible Schoolyard NYC provides underserved NYC public school students with
an experiential, inter-disciplinary seed-to-table education in order to
transform their relationship with food. Our goal is to provide students
with the knowledge, skills and environment required to make healthier
choices and change the way they eat...for life.

*Position Description*
The Garden Volunteer Program is a weekly commitment that runs for three
months during the spring semester at P.S./M.S. 7 and Global Tech. Working
under the supervision of the Garden Manger, the volunteer assists with
garden maintenance; cultivates food grown for the kitchen classroom; and
models positive behavior in the outdoor learning classroom, which inspires
wonder and respect for the environment, each other, and their health.

Semester-long volunteers have the opportunity to develop and share skills
related to growing organic food in an urban environment, and will work
alongside equally enthusiastic advocates of edible education. *This is not
a teaching position.*

*Garden Responsibilities:*
- *Building the garden: *light carpentry, painting, installing &
troubleshooting irrigation
- *Seasonal gardening tasks: *watering, fertilizing, weeding, managing
pests, supporting plants, pruning, trimming, deadheading
- *Routine garden maintenance and cleanup: *caring for tools and
equipment, organizing storage areas & supplies, keeping garden tidy &
teaching-ready
- *Caring for street trees: *building tree guards, improving the soil,
planting groundcovers and bulbs, watering

*Garden Admin Rotation (once every five weeks):*
- File student work into their garden education folder
- Create artistic materials for garden and classes
- Organize garden education spaces

*Duration*
The Spring Garden Volunteer Program is a three-month unpaid program that
takes place on Wednesdays (from 1 PM to 3 PM) at P.S./M.S. 7 and Global
Tech in East Harlem, NY. The program begins the week of March 17th and
concludes the week of June 23rd.
