Subject: #FoodFri Tweetchat: Kids’ Meals

We hope you’ll join @MomsRising and @CSPI Friday, January 31, at 1 p.m. EST for a #FoodFri tweetchat on restaurant children’s meals.

Kids are eating out a lot these days. Unfortunately, the majority of restaurant children’s meals are unhealthy, and most come with a soda or other sugary drink. While taking soda off the menu is not the only improvement needed to make restaurant children’s meals healthier, soda and other sugary drinks uniquely promote obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. McDonald’s recently announced it would no longer list soda on its kids’ menu, and @MomsRising and @CSPI need your help to urge other restaurants to do the same.

Also, please sign up for a Thunderclap<http://bit.ly/1hT6BV9> urging @Wendys and @BurgerKing to take soda off their children’s menus. A thunderclap is a tool that amplifies a tweet on Twitter. By signing up for the Thunderclap with your Twitter account, your account and others will automatically tweet the same message at the same moment, increasing the influence of a single tweet. The Thunderclap will go out after the tweetchat on January 31st.

Let us know if you have any relevant resources you’d like us to share during the tweetchat. Also, if you don’t handle social media for your organization, please share this invitation with the appropriate person.

For those who want to prepare a few tweets in advance, below are the topics we plan to discuss:

  * Why are experts concerned about children’s soft drink intake?
  * How restaurants can improve beverage offerings on kids’ menus
  * Tips for alternatives to soda
  * How to get involved to help get soda off restaurant kids’ menus

Also, here are a few model tweets to get involved:

  * Join us, @MomsRising & @CSPI on Fri Jan 31 at 1pm ET for a #FoodFri tweetchat on healthier kids’ meals. Pls RT!
  * Tell @Wendys & @BurgerKing to take soda off the kids’ menu http://bit.ly/1hT6BV9 & then join us for a #FoodFri tweetchat on 1/31 at 1 pm ET
  * What changes do you want to see in restaurant kids’ meals? Tell us Jan 31 at 1 pm ET during the #FoodFri tweetchat w/ @CSPI & @MomsRising!
  * Interested in getting soda off of kids’ menus? Join us for a #FoodFri tweetchat on Jan 31 at 1 pm ET to find out how you can help!
