 Dear Nutrition Students,

On Wed at 8 PM, you're invited to hear a panel discussion about jobs in public health.

We have invited a panel of public health and health care professionals to discuss the current job market and provide insights for job seekers from their own hiring experiences. The panel will include Former DOHMH Commissioner Thomas Farley; Mayra Ferreira, Vice President for Education, Research, and Training at Physicians for Reproductive Health; and Richard Chamberlain, founder and former president of Chamberlain HealthCare PR.

They will address questions such as:

  * With high unemployment, are good candidates easy to find? If not, why not? What skills and experiences do they value that are not so easy to find?
  * How big a role does networking play in the public health labor market?
  * What are the three most common “mistakes” they see on resumes?
  * Do they favor CVs or resumes?
  * What constitutes a good interview? Can they define the “intangibles?”
  * What role does traditional publishing play in their hiring decisions? Participation in digital discourses on health?
  * How important is experience working with communities? How important is international experience?
  * Where do they see the opportunities in public health? Where will the change agents come from and what will they be doing to improve health and well being?

You will also have the opportunity to ask questions.

The 14th is also the last day of research week and capstone students will have their posters hanging in the hallway outside of class. This is a great opportunity for you to see what lies ahead for capstone and beyond.

Please come to class and feel free to invite other MPH students who might benefit from the discussion.
