Subject: Hansard Scholars Programme: Scholarship Announcement

Dear Colleagues,

I would appreciate if you would share this information with your students.

The Hansard Society, which organises and administers the prestigious Hansard
Scholars Programme, is delighted to announce two scholarships to mark the
very special events that are taking place alongside the Summer 2012
Programme:

The Olympic Torch Scholarship & The Diamond Jubilee Scholarship

Each scholarship is worth £500. (GBP) and will be awarded to two Summer
applicants on the basis of a short essay competition.

The Summer Programme, run by the Hansard Society, the UK's leading
independent, non-partisan political research and education think tank, in
association with the London School of  Economics*, will take place from May
19th - August 4th, 2012.  (*The Hansard Society internships are separate
from the LSE's own Parliamentary internships scheme.)  Participants will
have a bird's eye view of the Diamond Jubilee, the celebrations to mark
Queen Elizabeth's 60 years on the throne, on June 4th and 5th. The Programme
will also be in full swing when the London Olympic Games get underway on
July 27th.

The Programme comprises an internship at the heart of British politics
usually with a Member of Parliament or a Peer in the House of Lords.  Some
Scholars request placements in Government departments, think tanks, NGOs or
media organisations.  Scholars also take two taught courses and write a
supervised dissertation.  The Programme is intensively political and
included in the cost is a four day study trip to the Scottish Parliament to
study devolution and Scottish politics and and a one day study trip to
Oxford to study electoral politics.  Also included in the cost is
accommodation in a prime Central London student apartment complex within a
10 minute walk of the Palace of Westminster and unlimited tube and bus
travel in Central London.  The cost is £8000. (GBP) for the 11 week
Programme.

Applicants will receive details of the Scholarships and the choice of essay
topics as soon as they either apply to the Programme or signal their
intention to apply.  For more information about the Programme and to
download an application form please
visitwww.hansardsociety.org.uk/studyandscholars.

Sincerely,

Gail Bumbury
