Affordable Care Act Volunteer Opportunity

Lenox Hill Neighborhood House (LHNH), a community-based organization located near 70th Street and 2nd Ave, is looking for 2-3 dedicated students to facilitate the rollout of the Affordable Care Act. This is a great service opportunity to learn about health insurance reform and gain a unique experience in alleviating healthcare disparities.
 
Responsibilities
•      Contribute 3-4 hours/week conducting intake assistance from January 2014 through March 2014
•      Participate in a 1.5 hour training that will prepare you for the position
•      Work closely with the lawyers and other professionals from LHNH’s Healthcare Access Project to facilitate insurance enrollment

•      Interact with and advocate for a diverse population of patients
•      Experience the work of healthcare lawyers, advocates, and medical students in an advocacy-based setting
•      Participate in a national public health campaign improving healthcare access to medically-underserved populations 
 
Qualities We Are Looking For
•      An interest in health insurance reform and enrollment
•      A passion for service and alleviating healthcare disparities
•      Strong communication skills
•      Speaking Spanish is a plus, but is not required
