>Consider applying to the following pipeline program

>The University of Michigan School of Public Health
>Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) for Undergraduate Students
>Application Deadline: March 5, 2007
>
>The School of Public Health at The University of Michigan sponsors the
>Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) which is designed to expose undergraduate
>students to careers in public health and public policy, particularly
>issues and topics related to racial, ethnic and socioeconomic disparities
>in health care. Under the supervision of School of Public Health faculty
>and administrators, undergraduate students are placed in paid health
>management and policy internships and pursue course work in a summer
>program that focuses on eliminating health disparities. The internships,
>which provide paid placements in hospitals, HMOs and other health services
>and public health agencies in Detroit, Ann Arbor and Flint, enable
>students to work in organizations that confront these disparities every
day.
>
>The Summer Enrichment Program is geared towards undergraduates entering
>their junior or senior year of academic study. Those pursuing degrees in
>the social sciences, the biological sciences, and other fields pertinent
>to health management and policy, such as economics, political science,
>accounting and finance, are especially encouraged to apply. Because the
>majority of placements are in Detroit, Ann Arbor or Flint, all
>participants must reside in Southeast Michigan or Genesee County during
>the summer. For students accepted into the program who attend
>non-Michigan universities and whose permanent summer residence is outside
>Southeast Michigan, the program will provide transportation to and from
>Ann Arbor and housing. All students are provided with local transportation
>or are reimbursed for their transportation costs and receive a food
>allowance as part of a $3,000 stipend. Applicants must show evidence of
>academic achievement (2.8 GPA or above). Preference will be given to
>applicants from populations that are adversely impacted by racial, ethnic
>or socioeconomic disparities in health (health disparities) or show a
>strong practical or research interest in health disparities.
>In addition to exposing students to public health and public policy
>issues, particularly health disparities, the Summer Enrichment Program is
>also a pipeline program intended to provide guidance and direction to SEP
>participants as they apply to graduate school, preferably to Master of
>Public Health (MPH) programs and other related degree programs. To assist
>students in the graduate school application process, the Summer Enrichment
>Program offers participants an eight (8) week Graduate Record Examination
>(GRE) preparation course. Because of their participation in the program,
>SEP participants are often admitted to the nation's leading public health
>graduate programs and/or win scholarships to finance their graduate school
>education.
