Academic Associate Program Summer 2014

Overview:
The  Academic  Associates  program  is  a  clinical  research  assistant  program  in  the Emergency Departments of St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City. The primary responsibility of Academic Associates is to assist the department in ongoing research projects in an effort to bring greater precision to emergency medicine and improve the overall quality of care.
Academic Associates gain extensive experience conducting hands-on clinical research while being exposed to medical practice in two urban emergency departments. The program also includes many other benefits:
•	One-on-one shadowing with resident in training
•	Access to trauma and resuscitation rooms
•	Focused  talks  and  demonstrations,  including  medical  techniques  such  as  suturing, casting, and ultrasound
•	Opportunities to observe EMT and paramedic teams in the field
•	Opportunities  to  submit  research  proposals  for  future  studies  conducted  in  the emergency department of the Hospital Center



Commitment:

We ask for two four-hour shifts per week from each Academic Associate and also request your attendance at biweekly evening training sessions per semester. All Academics Associates are responsible for knowing and following our policies in regards to attending shifts, training sessions, and orientations.
