POSITION DESCRIPTION
DEPARTMENT:	Population Health				
JOB TITLE:	Research Data Associate
REPORTS TO:	Jennifer McNeely, MD, MS
		
General Purpose:
Under the guidance of Dr. McNeely, the Research Assistant will help to implement a NIH/NIDA-funded study entitled “Brief Screening and Assessment Tool for Tobacco, Alcohol, Prescription Medication, and Other Substance Use and Substance Use Disorders.” The overall goal of this study is to assess the validity, feasibility and acceptability of a computerized self-assessment for substance use among primary care patients.  This study, to be conducted in 2014-2015, will take place in the adult primary care clinic of Bellevue Hospital.  We will recruit 400 patients to test the computerized questionnaire. 

A successful applicant for this position will be able to work independently with diverse patients and staff at all levels, comfortable in the primary care clinical setting, and fluent in English.

Essential Duties of Position:
1.	Assist with recruitment and enrollment of clinic patients 
2.	Conduct study interviews in English 
3.	Ensure that all participants complete study assessments
4.	Enter study data into research database
5.	Organize and maintain research records 

Experience and Training:
Education and Training
	4-year college degree
	Current graduate or post-bacc pre-med students welcome 
Experience and Skills
	Prior research experience a plus
	Fluent in written and spoken English
	Demonstrated ability to organize complex tasks and meet deadlines
	Facility with software applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint
Characteristics:
	Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with individuals from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds
	Detail-oriented and organized
	Professional in nature and demeanor
	Comfortable working in a medical setting

Time Commitment:  17.5 hours/week for one year
Start Date:  Jan/Feb 2014
Annual Salary:  $16,000 – $18,000 plus benefits
