To both candidates & the entire Caucus,

The Hunter College Senate attendance is a very large
issue as all of us know but going to departments may
not be as successful as one would think because it's
not like students hang out in their department's
offices. The lack of their being a student body group
for the Senate is a hazard to actively reaching out to
students so they can get involved. Runako has gone
down the road towards building up membership and
maintaining a membership connection through the
Student Caucus mailing list.

To further this, perhaps the new Vice Chair could
continue Runako's efforts to set up a club that
obtains USG money for funding to advertise. Another
suggestion is maintaining close ties with USG to
promote them to get involved also and stay in touch
with the larger issues within the college discussed at
the meetings. Some USG officials are supposed to be
going regularly to the meetings so they should be held
to that obligation in their job descriptions and
perhaps speak to USG about making more positions
obligated such as though in the USG Senate so we can
have a consistent stream of people who are experienced
with Senate matters. As we Senators have witnessed
this year and last, students are not educated on the
matters & rules of the Senate and there is a high
learning curve that is quite frustrating so having as
many people within the group as possible that can
perpetuate informed behaviour within the Senate on
behalf of the student senators as a whole would also
be beneficial.

The new student government slate Hunter United that
dominates the USG next year has many current student
senators, current student government advocates from
the smaller Brookdale Campus and students experienced
from other student governments that profess to want to
get reaults at Hunter. I suggest the senate student
caucus hold it to them to support this integral part
of student involvement in government as a whole at
Hunter.

Lastly, the Hunter Envoy needs to be held accountable
to its status as a college newspaper and be upgraded
to fulfill that obligation it has to the students. I
encourage the new Senate to work with USG to get this
done as a seperate body ofcourse but they both share
the same quintessential need to get students involved.

Working with USG was something not possible in
previous years and there is a chance now. It would
benefit the Senate to maintain contact with USG also
because it is a USG job to inform and get students
involved so they must be educated of Senate
information/open seats to increase the Senate's radius
of outreach to the students at Hunter College.

Hope my suggestions result in something but that is
what I want from a prospective candidate for Vice
Chair of the Hunter College Senate this new year.
