Hi everyone,

Our department has a job opening plus a couple of internships, and I thought your students might be interested.

Best,

Patti Sonntag

Senior Editor

The New York Times Syndicate

New York, NY 10018

work: 212-556-5135

JOB OPENING: EDITORIAL ASSISTANT, NY TIMES SYNDICATE

The New York Times Syndicate issues columns and features to more than 2,000 newspapers and other media in 80 countries. Our star columnists include Christopher Hitchens, Noam Chomsky and Jack and Suzy Welch. We also work with numerous magazines, including Harvard Business Review, The Economist and Prospect. We’re looking for a full-time editorial assistant who aspires, in the long term, to a career as an editor.

While there is a significant clerical component to the job, we consider our EAs to be editors-in-training, responsible for editing and maintaining the news wires and columns assigned to them. Other duties include answering rights queries from salespeople, providing support to client newspapers and magazines, assisting the photo editors, and occasional light financial administration.

EAs are often granted considerable responsibilities if they demonstrate consistent attention to detail, abilities as a copy editor and line editor, and a general commitment to excellence. Business dress is required. EAs are paid on an hourly basis. Fluency in Spanish is a plus, as is knowledge of Excel, Photoshop, InDesign, and other programs. Please submit a cover letter and resume asap to Patti Sonntag, senior editor, at [log in to unmask]
