The Markets and Outreach Coordinator will work as part of the East New York Farms! Project, a group of diverse gardens, vendors, farmers, and youth working together to strengthen our community through gardens, fresh food, and farmers markets. The East New York Farmers Markets is one of the largest youth and  community-led markets in the country and has been in operation for 15 years. ENYFarms! is a project of the United Community Centers, Inc. The Markets and Outreach Coordinator is an employee of the United Community Centers and is supervised by the East New York Farms! Project Director.



Responsibilities:

Promote local foods, local economy, and community by creating friendly, welcoming, and productive markets and empowering our neighbors to improve their health.



To achieve this, the market manager will:

•	Manage all aspects of market operations for two seasonal markets

(Wednesdays & Saturdays, June – November), including permitting and registration, maintaining supplies, event planning, and daily operations including set up, collecting fees, and enforcing rules

•	Recruit, register, and provide assistance & training to vendors

•	Organize and facilitate market meetings, including tracking meeting

attendance, notes and volunteering

•	Track and analyze market data, including sales and fees collected

•	Design, produce, and distribute materials to promote the market and

healthy eating

•	Outreach to and educate community members at the market and at off-

site events, including flyering, sending mailings, and coordinating cooking demonstrations

•	Develop further opportunities for expanding access to healthy food in

East New York, including establishing and maintaining relationships with partners and possibly initiating a buying club.

•	Coordinate a small CSA vegetable share program

•	Supervise two youth interns – Market intern and Community Education

intern – and encourage them to take leadership in promoting local foods and local economy

•	Facilitate nutrition workshops and cooking classes with youth interns

•	Manage Community Educators Program (Community Chefs) – including

recruiting Educators, facilitating trainings, scheduling demos, evaluating Community Educators at demos and promoting the program.



Qualifications:

•	Knowledge of and interest in community health

•	Committed to justice and equality

•	Respectful of all people, cultures and backgrounds

•	Able to communicate well with diverse members and partners, including:

teenagers, seniors, health center staff, vendors and other community partners.

•	Polite, humble and willing to learn

•	Friendly and out-going

•	Well-organized, focused, and able to prioritize

•	Flexible, adaptable, and able to find quick solutions

•	Willing to work both independently and collaboratively

•	Able to think strategically and engage in hands-on implementation of

programs

•	Able to work in a physically demanding environment (working outside in

all kinds of weather, lifting heavy things)

•	Computer literate and savvy in Microsoft Word, Excel and Publisher

•	Able to work weekends (work week is Tuesday – Saturday from March –

November and Monday – Friday from December – February) and occasional evenings

•	Special consideration will be given to applicants who are familiar

with East New York  and are bilingual (English/Spanish)

•	Driver’s license



This is a full time position with a $30,000 - $33,000 salary range, medical & dental benefits.



We are looking for a minimum of 2 year commitment.  Start date will be July 2013, with 1 month of training with current market manager (part-time) before transitioning to full-time in August.
