One place to start might be PhilPapers (http://philpapers.org/). I manage the categories for Informal Logic, Argument, and Fallacies there and I can say for sure that there is a lot of research on critical thinking out there in philosophy on critical thinking. I see it all the time when I'm doing my housekeeping for my categories on the site.
Right now at PhilPapers the closest thing to a critical thinking category is a category called "Critical Reasoning" It has no definition at present but it is distinguished from other sorts of research with 'critical' in the title (e.g. Critical Race Theory') in a way that seems to mark it out as a potentially good place for critical thinking papers to live. One thing we might do (and I'd be willing to do this) is to ask for a Critical Thinking subcategory to be added under Critical Reasoning.
Given that PhilPapers is a sister site to PhilJobs (http://philjobs.org/), and given that PhilJobs is used by the APA to do what the Jobs for Philosophers publication used to do, it seems that if the research has a place to live, then having CT recognized at PhilPapers might be one small step towards getting CT recognized as an AOC/AOS.
