There are several reasons for the change. The e-mail list for AIACTD was seriously out of date. I would get reports that some people never received messages I sent out on the old list. But I was at Hunter and so could not perform the update myself. The best way to treat this problem was to set up a new list, AILACT-L. Also, 2015 was an election year for the AILACT Board. The Board was concerned about who could vote in the election and felt strongly that people who had not paid their dues for more than three immediately past three years, or student members who had not paid dues for the current year, should not vote. Accordingly, we set up an additional list of just those whose dues were "current," AILACTE-L." This list is now in hibernation until the fall of 2017, when AILACT will have its next election for officers. AILACT-L is set up so that only the president of AILACT or someone authorized by the president can post to the list. So that AILACT should not lose having a discussion list, we have now set up AILACTD-L, open for posting in general. So AILACT now has three lists. AILACT-L is for messages from the AILACT President to the membership. AILACTD-L is for discussion and exchange among the membership. Anyone should be able to post to it. AILACTE-L is for communications from the AILACT leadership to those members of AILACT who are eligible to vote. AILACTD-L should be used for communication and discussion of issues in informal logic and critical thinking. The ARGTHY list, dealing with issues in argumentation theory in general, will remain at York University. I hope this message will remove confusion about AILACT's lists. Please let me know if you have questions. You can send them to me directly at [log in to unmask]

I expect the change to the committee would also include investigating possible sources to which to submit grant proposals. The floor is now open for discussion of this proposal and for volunteers to come forward. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
