 Subject: AILACT Committee Vacancies

TO: All AILACT Scholars
 FROM: AILACT Appointments Committee
The Appointments Committee of AILACT is seeking nominations (including self-nominations) and/or volunteers for the following vacant positions:
      (1) One member of the Textbook Review Committee, to join the other two current members, Janet Sobocan and Ian Dove. The task of this committee is of course defined by its name; and to some extent, it can also be elaborated by its members. However, note that at its last annual meeting, the AILACT Board of Directors also gave it the following specific charge: “The committee should put links to previously published reviews of informal logic/critical thinking textbooks on the AILACT website. Also the committee should prepare a bibliography of critical thinking textbook material on the market and post it to the AILACT website.” The length of the term of office for this position is not formally defined or specified.
      (2) One member of the Grant Proposal Writing Committee, to join the other two current members, Trudy Govier and Don Hatcher. Here, note that at its last meeting the Board of directors agreed that “this committee should devote its energies to writing proposals for worthy projects. To find out what projects to deem worthy, a memo should go out to the general membership asking for the members to indicate what they would like to see AILACT promote.” The latter is currently being done. Again, note that the length of this term of office is not formally defined or specified.
      (3) Newsletter Editor, to replace Geoff Goddu, who does not want to continue after his current term expires, with the December 2017 issue. For this position, the term of office lasts three years and is renewable.
If you want to nominate someone, make sure that the nominee agrees, and send us a brief sentence of endorsement and a copy of the nominee’s CV. Similarly, if you want to volunteer, send us a brief expression of interest and a copy of your CV. Needless to say, you should indicate which position(s) you are referring to. The deadline for you to send us such material is July 24, 2017. These emails (with attachments) should be sent to all three members of the Appointments Committee:
Maurice Finocchiaro, [log in to unmask]
Dan Boone, [log in to unmask]
Dima Mohammed, [log in to unmask]
Please note that the Appointments Committee merely makes recommendations to the AILACT Board of Directors, and that it is the latter who formally decides on the actual appointments.
