It is our pleasure to announce that we
have three grants available from El Centro Exchange Programs:
1) Caribbean Research Grant: CUNY faculty and
students and members of higher education and/or research institutions in the
Caribbean may submit a proposal outlining a research topic related to the
Dominican Republic, Cuba and other Caribbean nations which will be evaluated on
a continual basis pending available funds.
The grant amounts range from $1000 to $4000 and will take the form of
reimbursement for research-related expenses for CUNY faculty and stipends for
doctoral/graduate students and applicants from the
Caribbean.
2) Visiting Scholars Grant: The CUNY-Caribbean Exchange program is holding a
competition in which grants will be awarded to two post-doctorates ($5000), two
graduate/doctoral students ($5000), and two New York City High School and/or
Middle School Teachers ($2500).
Washington Mutual is sponsoring the grants for middle and high school
teachers. Prospective awardees are
to submit a proposal by January 15, 2005, outlining a topic on the Puerto Rican
Diaspora in the United States.
Post-doctorates and graduate student proposals are to outline a Research
Project. High School and Middle
School Teacher proposals should outline the development of curricular units
and/or lesson plans incorporating Puerto Rican/Latino history in New York
City.
3) Puerto Rican Studies Research
