Snapple - Best People in NYC
The Best People in NYC highlights and celebrates the contributions and dedication of NYC’s not-for-profit community. Sponsored by Snapple, this is the Mayor’s Volunteer Center’s chance to recognize an amazing organization once a month, informing New Yorkers about the organization and the wonderful people who run it, volunteer at it, and help to make it great!

If you are a staff member, volunteer or client at a New York City not-for-profit organization and you want to tell the world about the great work being done, here’s your chance! Tell us about it and if the nonprofit is selected as one of Snapple’s Best People in NYC – we’ll feature you and your organization on our website and your nonprofit will receive a $1,000 donation from Snapple.

Holiday Volunteer Opportunities
The holiday season is fast approaching and many New Yorkers like to volunteer during this time of year. Check out the many great volunteer opportunities on our Holiday pages and be sure to sign-up early as positions fill up quickly (Thanksgiving opportunities have all been filled). Whether it's organizing a canned food drive, collecting coats, serving meals to the homeless or throwing a christmas party for seniors, there are countless ways to give back.

World AIDS Day

December 1st is World AIDS Day and a time to reflect on what you can do to help fight this world-wide pandemic.  There are nonprofits in NYC devoted to working with AIDS/HIV patients or helping with education and advocacy that are in need of dedicated volunteers.  To find out more about what is happening to address AIDS around the world, join the Peace Corps for an HIV/AIDS Awareness Panel Discussion on November 30th with The New School University and a video presentation. The panel will be composed of Returned Peace Corps Volunteers with an HIV/AIDS focus.

November is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

New York City's tough stance against domestic violence has resulted in the opening of the Family Justice Center in Brookyln  (FJC). The Center allows victims of domestic violence to access comprehensive services under one roof.  Volunteer for this or any of the great organizations who work to raise awareness of this important issue and give aid to victims.
