Volunteer Opportunity at American Cancer Society-Asian Initiatives:
The American Cancer Society-Asian Initiatives division is currently
seeking bilingual volunteers fluent in one or more South Asian languages
to translate educational materials in its Flushing, Queens office. These
materials provide information on various types of cancer (colon, cervical,
breast, prostate) and must be translated from English into Hindi/Urdu,
Bengali, and Punjabi for use at community health fairs and screenings.
We invite individuals fluent in any one of the above-mentioned languages,
particularly Bengali and Punjabi, to volunteer their time at ACS-Asian
Initiatives. Volunteers should be able to
read/write/speak the language and also be
comfortable understanding and communicating health/medical/scientific
material. Hours will be flexible and largely project-based. If
interested, please send your resume to Suman Saran at [log in to unmask].
No experience necessary, but some background in translation
or community-based work with South
Asians in NYC may be helpful.
