Subject: 2009 International REU Program in Ghana
The University of Florida invites students to participate in its NSF-funded
International Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Site Program at the
University of Cape Coast, Ghana from May through July 2009. The goal of this
program is to expand the educational experience of participants through
research in ecology, environmental science, and conservation biology in
tropical sub-Sahara Africa. Participants will travel with the Program Director
to the University of Cape Coast, Ghana during the summer to work on defined
research projects under the mentorship of Ghanaian scientists. They will
conduct carefully selected projects focusing on ecological studies in the Cape
Coast area such as the Kakum National Forest, one of the few virgin forests in
Africa. Weekly seminars and workshops, led by Ghanaian professors, will provide
participants opportunities to learn beyond their disciplines. Field trips to
cultural sites will take place during the weekends. Airfare, room and board
will be provided. Participants will receive a stipend at the end of the
program. Additional information and applications are available at http://www.honors.ufl.edu/ucc/.
Deadline for receiving applications is January 30 2009.
