Planned Parenthood of New York City Advocacy & Organizing Intern
Reports to: Grassroots Organizer
For more than 90 years, Planned Parenthood of New York City (PPNYC) has been a
beacon of hope for the thousands of women, teens, and families who rely on us
for essential reproductive health care, innovative educational programs, and
effective advocacy. The work of our advocacy and organizing department
encourages public and political support for reproductive health and rights.
This internship will support our advocacy and political organizing work –
legislative and electoral, event planning, fundraising, online community
building, and social networking.
Duties:
• Assist in planning, organizing and leading activist events, including
visibility events, fundraising events, and educational forums
• Assist in recruiting and training new activists
• Develop and manage online social networking sites – i.e. Facebook, MySpace,
Twitter, etc.
• Assist in e-activist database management
• Assist with college campus outreach and relationship building
• Other duties as assigned
Requirements: interest in politics, policy, and community organizing; excellent
writing, research and computer skills; commitment to reproductive rights;
familiarity with Facebook and MySpace interface; superb at multi-tasking and
prioritizing, knowledge of online programs and organizing experience a plus.
Hours: 15+ per week
Hours are flexible, but does require some weekend and evening commitments
