Subject: Posting volunteer opportunity for Hunter PreHealth/Post-bacc students in Bellevue Hospital's Pediatric Clinic

Hi there -

I was told that you are the advisor at Hunter who is in charge of the pre-health listserve, and was hoping you might help me post an opportunity for your students.

I am a pediatrician at the NYU School of Medicine who is working on research on parent-health provider communication, and the impact of parent literacy on child health, including medication errors and preventive health issues.  I am looking for volunteers interested in working with me on a clinical research project in Bellevue Hospital's outpatient pediatric clinic.

I would appreciate it if you could assist me in reaching out to the pre-health students at Hunter - I have included the listing below as well as attached a word document version.  Thank you so much!

Sincerely,

Shonna

Research assistants needed to help work on research project in Bellevue Hospital’s Pediatric Outpatient Clinic

Volunteer research assistants (bilingual English-Spanish) are needed to assist physician with research projects taking place in the pediatric outpatient clinic.  Projects involve looking at the impact of parent literacy on children’s health, with areas of focus including parent understanding of medication instructions/prevention of medication errors, and childhood obesity prevention.

Volunteers will assist in patient recruitment and data collection in the outpatient pediatric clinic.   Strong interpersonal skills are essential.  Volunteers will be introduced to principles of clinical research and will have the opportunity to be involved in data analyses.

Research assistants are needed during the months of January through June.  Summer/fall opportunities may also be available.  We would like volunteers to make a commitment to volunteer for a minimum of 2 or 3 sessions per week, for a minimum of two semesters.  Volunteers are needed during daytime hours (9am-5 pm), with division into two shifts (9am-1pm; 1pm-5pm) per day.
