year, the two- day exhibit will highlight the body of video and new
media art, including documentary and experimental video, installation,
performance, interactive, and web-based art, produced by students of the
IMA-MFA program.
As in past years, the work presented will
address the exchange of ideas, theories, social commentary, and the
underlying spirit that drives the artistic production and practice of
the students and faculty in the IMA-MFA program. Featured artists
include:
Kevin Allen, Kathy Conkwright, Ozge Dooan,
Meredith Goncalves, Sebastian Gutierrez, Melissa Hacker, Sarah Enid
Hagey, Cristina Herrera, Jennifer Jacobs, Elizabeth Knafo, Kate Kunath,
Dahye Lee, Juliana Marzo, Benjamin Moss, Daniel Phelps, Chloe Smolarski,
Vandana Sood, Megan Sperry, Sam Stalling, Satoko Sugiyama, Laurie
Sumiye, Flonia Telegrafi, Sean Weiner, Sasha Wortzel, Sam Feder, Monica
Johnson.
This event is sponsored by the Hunter College Integrated
Media Arts MFA program and EYEspeak, the IMA graduate student
organization. The MFA in Integrated Media Arts is a unique graduate
program that focuses on the creative production of media with a social
orientation.
Based in New York City—the global hub of old and
new media technology—the IMA-MFA program encourages students to explore a
wide variety of existing and emerging forms and communicate their
messages in the rapidly evolving contemporary media environment.
Projects by students in the program have been exhibited as public
exhibitions, performances and screenings, online/networked game
environments, and rich media for PDAs and cell phones. From intimate
personal stories with universal human appeal to global collaborative
networks to in- depth media critique, IMA-MFA students work to bring
resonant messages to the medium.
Admission to the IMA Spring
Show is free to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
