Description
Peer Health Exchange (PHE) is a national
non-profit organization whose mission is to give teenagers the knowledge and
skills they need to make healthy decisions. We do this by training college
students to teach a comprehensive health curriculum in public high schools that
lack health education. Since our founding in 2003, we have trained 2,500 college
student volunteers to deliver effective health education to over 25,000 public
high school students in New York City, Boston, Chicago, the San Francisco Bay
Area, and Los Angeles. By 2012, our goal is to have trained 10,000 college
students to reach 100,000 public high school students across eight cities,
empowering these teens to make healthy decisions and building a strong base for
future growth.
The primary responsibilities of the PHE New York City Program Associate will
be to assist with the development, management, growth, and evaluation of the New
York City Program and to assist the New York City Executive Director. The New
York City Program Associate reports to the New York City Executive Director.
This is a full-time position with a competitive salary and benefits
package.
Responsibilities
The PHE New York City Program Associate
will:
- Develop, manage, grow, and evaluate the PHE Program at three PHE NYC
College sites by:
- Supervising volunteer recruitment and selection
- Leading the training of college students in leadership skills (managing
a peer group), teaching skills (public speaking, facilitation, and classroom
management), and health information
- Managing college student leaders on an ongoing basis
- Evaluating volunteer performance
- Collecting, analyzing, and reporting data for program evaluation
- Attending PHE volunteer meetings on some weekday evenings and
weekends
- Develop, manage, grow, and evaluate PHE NYC Partner High Schools by:
- Developing and maintaining partnerships with NYC public high
schools
- Supervising the scheduling and teaching of PHE workshops in Partner High
Schools
- Collecting, analyzing, and reporting data for program evaluation
- Attending PHE workshops in Partner High Schools
- Assist with raising funds for the PHE NYC Site by:
- Researching potential funders
- Preparing fundraising materials, including grant applications and
individual appeal materials
- Assisting in preparation for PHE fundraising events
- Provide administrative support by:
- Copying, filing, and faxing PHE materials
- Purchasing, distributing, and maintaining PHE office supplies and
equipment
- Planning, purchasing, distributing, and maintaining materials for
College Sites and Partner High Schools
- Assisting in reporting PHE assets, revenue, and expenditures
- Managing the PHE Program Intern
- Assist the PHE NYC Executive Director
Qualifications
Peer Health Exchange is looking for
someone who:
- Has a Bachelor’s degree
- Has leadership experience supervising, managing, and training others
- Has excellent public speaking, writing, and editing skills
- Has excellent organizational skills and is extremely detail-oriented
- Has strong interpersonal skills
