Research Assistant Wanted:

A New York City office of three orthopedic surgeons, specializing in hand
and upper extremity surgery, is looking to fulfill a full-time, paid
research assistant position with a start date of September 1, 2010. This
position is a great stepping stone for individuals interested in medical
research and/or looking to go to medical school (it's an excellent "lag
year" position while applying to medical schools.) Applicants should have
some prior professional work experience, an undergraduate degree from a four
year institution, and be willing to work for at least one year. Applicants
should also be self-motivated, well organized, and have a genuine interest
in medicine. A strong technical background is preferred, but not required.

If you are interested, please respond with your resume and cover letter
attached (a description of your qualifications in an email instead of a
cover letter is fine.) Interviews will be conducted over the next two
weeks. If you are selected for the position, you should be available on
Thursday, July 22nd all day to have a knowledge transfer session (you will
be paid) with the current research assistant, who is leaving.

Some responsibilities include:

- Continue to support and manage ongoing research initiatives.

- Spearhead and manage the creation of new research initiatives.

- Consent and perform regular follow-ups with research patients.

- Compile and analyze study data to determine pertinent results
(familiarization with Excel is a must.)

- Assist in the creation and submission of research manuscripts. Having
your name published is very probable.

- Sit in on many surgeries to digitally document operations (excellent
surgery exposure.)

- Perform miscellaneous research related tasks.
