No cost weekend symposium and career workshop, with generous travel funds available.

On Friday, January 13, 2012, the MD/PhD Programs of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston’s Medical School, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Baylor College of Medicine will host a special Translational Research Symposium and an MD/PhD Career Development Workshop on January 14. Information about these programs can be found at http://www.uthouston.edu/gsbs/symposium.

The Symposium is designed to illustrate how state-of-the-art basic science research is conducted and rapidly translated to improve clinical and public health outcomes. It may be of special interest to undergraduates interested in MD/PhD programs who are considering a PhD in the biomedical sciences that involves dissertation research with a clear potential for a clinical or translational impact. The Workshop has been specifically designed for current and prospective MD/PhD students. Both the Symposium and Workshop are open to the public and there is no charge to attend, but visiting students must register by December 31, 2011 to attend the Workshop. Travel funds (includes transportation, 2 nights of lodging and meal allowance) are available for prospective MD/PhD students to attend the symposium and workshop. The deadline to submit a travel award application is November 1, 2011, and instructions can be found at the aforementioned website.
