Dear SPH faculty at Hunter:
The Capstone Faculty team is asking you to sign up to review capstone
papers for the Fall 2011 semester. The expectation is that each full-time
faculty member will review at least one paper. Please look over the list
of projects and indicate your 1st, 2nd, and
3rd choices by entering your last name on the appropriate
lines on the spread-sheet. We ask that you sign up on google docs
as described below as soon as possible but no later than November
14. See attached document for more detailed instructions.
All MPH and EOHS-MS students must complete a capstone project in order to
graduate. Students enrolled in PH 738: Capstone Seminar write either a 1)
capstone paper or 2) a masters essay in the form of a
manuscript for a professional journal in the student’s discipline. There
are two types of capstone papers – a practice paper based on the
student’s fieldwork and a research paper that may or may not be
based on fieldwork but follows an experimental design.
In either case, each paper is reviewed by an assigned capstone faculty
member (Arlene,Lorna, Frank, Linda or Bea) and also by a second faculty
member--that would be you if you teach a graduate course. Thus, each
paper is subject to two reviews.
Signing-up to review a capstone project
We have created a spread-sheet listing each student’s track and the
title of his or her capstone project. You can access the spread-sheet
directly by going to:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApZjsq_RMWKydFlaTUZfRVhVS29uWU9UVWcxdDRmZGc
Please look over the list of projects and indicate your
1st, 2nd, and 3rd choices by entering
your last name on the appropriate lines on the spread-sheet. Since there
are a large number of papers this term, some faculty may be asked to
review two papers. You will definitely not be asked to review more than
one if you recently reviewed two capstone papers in a single
semester. Faculty members who do not sign-up will be assigned a
paper to review.
The review process
We now have an un-blinded (transparent) review of the papers.
Students will know who their reviewers are, and reviewers will know whose
papers they are reviewing.
Papers will be distributed to you by email as soon as practical after
November 14th, or earlier if the draft final paper is received
earlier. Please review the paper using Track Changes, inserting
comments or text.
Thank you for participating in this important program function!
