Physical Education in the City Public Schools Task Force

 

The internship supports the Women’s City Club of New York’s Task Force on Physical Education in City Public Schools.  The Task Force advocates for the restoration and inclusion of physical education and activities in all the city’s schools, and in accordance with minimum state requirements, to promote student health, well-being, and improved academic performance.  The WCC works to shape public policy in order to promote responsive government through education, issue analysis, advocacy and civic participation.

 

TERM:

The internship will be a paid part-time position for approximately 10 hours per week. The office is open Monday through Friday from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm. The precise days and time will be by mutual agreement and may be adjusted in consultation with your supervisor depending on other personal, academic or other professional commitments and ability to work on your own computer. The internship does not offer any academic credits.

The initial term of this internship will be for the remainder of Spring and the Summer 2012 Semester.

 

STIPEND:

The internship will pay an hourly stipend, depending on experience. It offers no benefits.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position will provide policy research, analysis and advocacy support to the Task Force. The intern will help plan and organize Fall conference, coordinate advocacy meetings and materials, conduct policy and legislative research, write and edit policy reports and studies, and assist with management of operations and administration. Complete details of the responsibilities and issue focus will be determined when the internship commences.

 

SUPERVISION:

You will be primarily supervised by Amy J. Schwartz, Chair of the Task Force, and secondarily by the WCC’s Director of Program and Administration. The supervisors will provide training and guidance in all aspects of the intern’s responsibilities.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Good research, analytical and writing skills, event planning experience, ability to work with minimal supervision, and self-starting. Computer skills are essential. Interest in education policy, the not-for-profit world and in New York City are a plus.  College graduation, with studies in related graduate schools (teaching, physical education, and public policy/administration) preferred.
