Job Description for  GNYDA Healthy Bodegas Initiative

 

Title of the position  On-Site Coordinator (part-time)

 

Location  Bodega(s) are not yet identified, but will be located in either the 10458 and 10460 zip codes in Bronx.

 

Reports to  GNYDA Let’s Move Coordinator

 

Overall responsibility   Oversee GNYDA’s Healthy Bodegas Initiative and be the main contact person with the bodega owner/manager. Make weekly on-site visits to the bodega to ensure proper implementation of the Healthy Bodegas Initiative. Conduct promotional events at the bodega.

 

Key areas of responsibility

Assess Store Inventory

Conduct store owner/manager survey

Help develop implementation plan and timeline

Help promote the bodega to get community buy-in

Develop a relationship with the partner organization and meet with the

point-person at the organization monthly

Conduct a once per month nutrition promotion event and store cleanup at

the bodega

Oversee volunteers who attend events at the bodega

Participate in a monthly conference call with the GNYDA Let’s Move!

Committee

Evaluate the success of the program

Bodega owner(s) and manager(s)

Partner Organization (to be determined)

NYC DOHMH Healthy Bodegas Initiative staff

 

Term of employment  1 year (Subject to change)

 

Qualifications

Registered Dietitian

Member of GNYDA

Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred

Community Nutrition experience preferred

Personable with effective communication skills

Good organizational skills

 

Salary will be commensurate with experience, language fluency, and number of bodegas contracted with.

Job Opening – Registered Dietitian  

The Community Pediatric Programs (CPP) at The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore is seeking a nutritionist to provide timely and effective nutrition care to adult and pediatric ambulatory, high risk/underserved families. CPP is an innovative health care program serving underserved children and families throughout New York City.  The mission at the CPP is to provide high quality, comprehensive health care to the patients and community we serve.   

This is a challenging position requiring an innovative and dynamic nutritionist who will also provide nutrition education workshops to adult and pediatric patients enrolled in Centering Care while also fulfilling the requirements of the Starting Right Initiative – a pediatric obesity program that involves education, research, clinical care and policy change.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Provide all aspects of nutrition care for CPP adult and pediatric patients.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate on-site and off-site nutrition education workshops (including shelters, schools, health fairs and churches).
  • Maintain a food pantry.
  • Develop high quality, low-literacy educational materials for patients.
  • Participate in clinical staff training.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Dietitian (RD) or RD eligible willing to take RD test within 6 months of hire; Master’s degree in Nutrition or Public Health preferred; CDE preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent oral and written skills
  • Bi-lingual Spanish/English strongly preferred
  • Successful candidate will be a creative, highly self-motivated team player with the ability to work independently.
