The University of Minnesota Division of Epidemiology and Community Health, School of Public
Health is recruiting a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor, tenure-track or tenured
Associate Professor, or tenured Full Professor to participate in research and teaching in the
area of public health nutrition. This appointment provides an outstanding opportunity for
transdisciplinary research and teaching collaboration across a broad range of disciplines.
The Division of Epidemiology and Community Health (http://www.epi.umn.edu) provides a rich
and collaborative environment for the investigation of the etiology and prevention of chronic and
infectious diseases. It has 50 primary faculty who bring in over $30 million annually in
sponsored research grants, and an additional 80 adjunct faculty. The Division offers programs
leading to the MPH, MS and PhD degrees, and has active pre- and post-doctoral training. Public
Health Nutrition is one of four MPH degree programs offered through the Division of
Epidemiology and Community Health. In addition to the standard public health nutrition track,
we also offer students a nutrition epidemiology track, a Coordinated Master’s Program that
allows students to complete a dietetic internship along with the MPH degree, and the
opportunity for students to participate in the Peace Corps Masters International Program
(http://www.sph.umn.edu/programs/phn/curriculum/pcmi/).
The University of Minnesota is in a large and vibrant metropolitan area. Major assets of the
Division of Epidemiology and Community Health include access to several ongoing community based
nutrition intervention studies and large prospective cohort studies. The Division is also
home to the Nutrition Coordinating Center (http://www.ncc.umn.edu/), whose mission is to
develop, provide, and support state-of-the-art methods and databases for researchers for the
collection and analysis of dietary data. There are numerous opportunities for collaboration with
the faculty in the Academic Health Center, Minnesota Obesity Prevention Center, Epidemiology
Clinical Research Center, Department of Food Science and Nutrition, Center for Global Health,
Minnesota Department of Health, VA Medical Center, and community-based agencies in the
Twin Cities metropolitan area.
Investigators with an interest in global health/nutrition, nutrition policy, food systems and the
food environment, nutrition epidemiology, community nutrition, or social media / nutrition health
promotion are encouraged to apply. Requirements for the position include 1) an earned
doctorate with formal training in nutrition, public health, or epidemiology; and 2) relevant
nutrition research experience; and 3) relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals; and 4)
evidence of potential for obtaining independent external research funding or prior history of
successful external research funding, and 5) evidence of successful graduate-level (or
comparable) teaching and advising experience. The Registered Dietitian (RD) credential and
several years of practice experience as an RD is desirable, but not required. Primary
responsibilities for the position will be to assume an active role in public health nutrition research
and teaching.
Rank and tenure of appointment will depend on level of accomplishment based on the specific
requirements above. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and
