*Who are we?*

Lutheran Family Health Centers (LFHC) serves as the ambulatory arm of
Lutheran HealthCare providing services to nearly 100,000 patients. Located
in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, LFHC is the largest Federally Qualified Health
Center Network in New York State and the second largest in the nation. In
over 608,000 patient encounters, the network includes nine primary care
sites, thirty-one school-based health centers and dental clinics, three day
care centers, the nation’s largest dental residency program, New York’s
largest behavioral health program, fourteen community medicine sites
providing care to homeless New Yorkers, comprehensive HIV services and a
family support center offering educational, vocational and other social
support programs.****

*Prospective Interns*

With mentorship from researchers and medical staff at LFHC and our research
partners from the Clinical Directors Network (CDN), Inc. and Weill Cornell
Medical College, interns will be able to increase their knowledge in
research methodology while given the opportunity to create meaningful
abstracts that will lead to significant research studies, mainly tackling
the elimination of health disparities. With a large and diverse patient
population, LFHC will be focusing most of their research on
patient-centered outcomes as a means to eliminate health disparities. Many
of the patients at LFHC are from ethnic minorities, foreign-born, and
living under the federal poverty level. In developing our research
capacity, interns can research how these barriers, amongst several others,
affect access, engagement, and retention in obtaining health services and
also in chronic disease management. ****
