GrowNYC is a hands-on non-profit which improves New York City’s quality of life through environmental programs that transform communities block by block and empower all New Yorkers to secure a clean and healthy environment for future generations. Our programs include the Office of Recycling Outreach and Education, Open Space Greening, and Greenmarket, the largest network of open-air farmers markets in the United States.

 

GrowNYC seeks a truck driver for Greenmarket Co., a new mission-driven produce distribution program that will provide stores, restaurants, and other wholesale buyers in New York City with a source of fresh produce grown on regional farms. This position offers the opportunity to be involved with an innovative start-up program in year one of operations, and requires a flexible and enthusiastic person to work as part of the Greenmarket Co. operations team.

 

Responsibilities:

-          The Greenmarket Co. Driver is part of a two-person team based out of Long Island City, Queens responsible for providing efficient and safe delivery of produce by the case or pallet to clients within NYC (5 Boroughs).

-          Greenmarket Co. Drivers pickup trucks from our refrigerated warehouse facility in Long Island City, make deliveries in a 16’ refrigerated truck with lift gate, and operate a hand truck or pallet jack as needed.

-          Drivers deliver orders to the appropriate destination within a scheduled time.

-          They are expected to provide professional customer service, keep all delivery documents and invoices neat and organized, and communicate with supervisors regarding lateness, equipment issues, and damaged or missing product.

-          The driver will also assist the Warehouse Manager with receiving product and aggregating orders for clients.

 

Qualifications:

-          21 years of age or older

-          One year commercial truck driving experience or recent CDL graduate

-          Familiarity with and driving knowledge of NYC streets

-          Ability to maneuver a full pallet with appropriate equipment

-          Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

-          Must be comfortable interacting with customers

-          Strong commitment to customer service and safety

-          Ability to work a flexible schedule (potentially including early mornings and late nights)and willingness to assist with other operational tasks within the warehouse during scheduled hours as needed

 

Driving Record requirements:

-          Must have a valid NY, NJ, CT or PA driver license

-          CDL is not required, but a plus

-          3 points or less on a motor vehicle report

-          No suspensions (regardless of cause)

-          Valid medical card

 

The Greenmarket Co. Driver position pays $15/hour and does not include benefits. The position begins in immediately part-time with potential for increased hours as the season progresses. Operations Manager, Harvest Home Farmers Markets

LOCATION: Community based Farmer’s Markets in NYC areas: Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and

WAGE CATEGORY: Hourly ($15/hr)

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervise and manage Site Monitors responsible for Harvest Home market locations
• Coordinate and facilitate the daily schedules, market assignments and work flow
• Enforce market documentation requirements, stall assignments and grievance procedures as outlined
in the “Market Operating Procedures.”
• Review each farmer’s crop plan to ensure that farmers are in compliance with the market growing
policy.
• Work with farmers to help maximize revenue opportunities and ensure compliance. Take ownership
of market and foster a sense of pride in the community.
• Oversee EBT operations and prepare and submit monthly reports.
• Maintain safe-keeping of all market supplies included but not limited to: reporting forms, signs,
banners, flyers, etc. provided by Harvest Home Farmers Market. Reports to: Director

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must have vehicle
• Must be bilingual (Preferably Spanish, Chinese, French, or Russian)
• Knowledge of the community and stakeholders
• Reliable and willing to commit to the entire market season
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
• Some knowledge of harvesting season and regional produce preferred but not necessary
• Must be a fast learner
• Must be flexible for schedule changes, which may include weekends and weekdays
• Ability to work from both home and office as assigned
