Corbin Hill Road Farm (CHRF) is a network of rural farms and urban communities in New York. CHRF works with farmers from upstate New York and community groups in New York City to deliver fresh, local produce to Harlem and the Bronx. This social enterprise is a community-driven business that delivers farm fresh produce directly to communities in Harlem and the Bronx. Corbin Hill Road Farm Shareholders (members) purchase and receive a “share” of produce harvested which includes number of seasonal items each week.

Corbin Hill Road Farm has worked with the CUNY Institute for Health Equity and Lehman College to implement a farm sharing program on Lehman's campus. Farm shares are available every Tuesday to anyone, on or off campus. The Young Men's Clinic

The Young Men's Clinic (Located at 21 Audubon Ave in Washington Heights) is a free and low-cost health clinic specifically for men ages 14-35

Dear Friends of the Institute,

This July marks the start of the Institute's Bronx Birth study, a project that we will continue for the next couple of years. Investigating stressors in women's lives that lead to poor birth outcome is especially crucial here in the Bronx, as this borough is consistently ranked as being highest in infant mortality. Eligibility requirements for participating in the study are listed below.

Successful and Productive Academic Research Careers (SPARC) is holding a free professional development conference on August 2nd. Registration information is below.

Sin Pais, a documentary about families torn apart by deportation, will be screened at the Macaulay Honors College on August 9th. For more details, see below.

Second Annual SPARC Junior Conference


Date: Thursday, August 2nd, 2012

Time: 5:15PM–9:15PM (Food will be provided.)

Location: Uris Auditorium, Olin Gymnasium, Weill Cornell Medical College, 1300 York Avenue, New York, NY 10065

Cost: There is no cost, slots are limited so it is best to RSVP early

Background: The achieving Successful and Productive Academic Research Careers (SPARC) tri-institutional program was launched in 2010 in direct response to the NIH’s call for a vigilant and expedient response to the underrepresentation of women and racial/ethnic minority investigators in academic research.  This program is a collaboration between The Rockefeller University, Weill Cornell Medical College and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Purpose: The purpose of the August 2nd, 2012 professional development conference is to increase knowledge about navigating the path for careers in translational science, medicine, and health disparities research.

Population Target: Underrepresented minority and female high school students, college students, post-baccalaureates, and high school teachers

Agenda items include: What is Translational Science Lecture, Effective Networking, National Organization involvement overviews, Health Disparities and Translational Science careers panel, training opportunities and Round Table discussions on more in-depth topics with current students and faculty in the field.

Sin Pais Movie Screening

Ever considered how immigration affects a family? Or the detrimental effects of deportation? Sin País tells the story of the family’s separation at the hands of the U.S. immigration system when they are deported back to Guatemala.  Sin País explores the complexities of the  new reality through stunning imagery, candid dialogue and intimate access.

Please join the CUNY Institute for Health Equity as we take part in a nationwide premiere party in which the film Sin Pais will be screened followed by a discussion of the documentary. We look forward to seeing you there!
