Walden University is seeking an Academic Program Director for our MPH program.  This position is virtual.


GENERAL SUMMARY

The Academic Program Director will function as part of a leadership team in conjunction with the Associate Dean. The people filling these positions will need flexibility and creative problem solving skills and a strong commitment to their professions and field of study.

The School of Health Sciences provides innovative educational programs using a scholar-practitioner model to equip a diverse array of learners as social change agents who will promote, educate, motivate, and advocate for healthy communities.

Walden University seeks a Program Director who is dynamic and forward thinking about the future of Public Health. The Program Director for the Masters of Public Health Program is a full-time administrator who reports to the Associate Dean, School of Health Sciences, within the College of Health Sciences. The Program Director supervises the MPH Academic Program Coordinator and the program's full and part-time faculty. The Program Director works closely with other Program Directors, Academic Advising, and administrative staff. The person filling the position should be flexible, possess creative problem solving skills and demonstrate leadership and a strong commitment to their profession.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The person in this position is responsible for administrative duties, which include but are not limited to:

*       Overseeing, evaluating and maintaining the quality and integrity of the MPH program curricula

*       Participating in ongoing development, assessment and accreditation activities

*       Coordinating faculty recruitment, orientation, development, mentoring and evaluation

*       Engaging in student retention and success initiatives

*       Supervising the MPH Academic Program Coordinator and full and part-time faculty assigned to the program

*       Assigning faculty teaching responsibilities

*       Mediating and resolving faculty and student issues and maintaining a sense of community

*       Serving on school and university committees.<li>Participating in academic residencies

*       May include responsibility for teaching and supervising student research on a limited basis.




EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

*       Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in Public Health or a closely related field. An MPH is required if the candidate does not possess a doctorate in public health

*       In depth knowledge and experience with the CEPH accreditation processes

*       Evidence of effective academic leadership and management

*       Experience in chairing or serving on dissertation committees

*       Commitment to advocating for the learning and development needs of non-traditional students earning their degrees in a distance learning environment including students who are experienced professionals

*       Ability to work in cross-functional team, be comfortable with the business aspect of the educational enterprise, be flexible, timely and responsive, and able to deal with a fast-paced environment

*       Commitment to the promotion of applied research and the recruitment and development of a diverse faculty

*       Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to be a team player and demonstration of solid human relation skills

*       Must be able to travel to quarterly faculty meetings, residencies and other events as needed

*       Evidence of compatibility with the Walden University mission of positive social change, broad access and professional excellence and value quality, integrity and student-centeredness

Preferred Qualifications:

*       Leadership experience as demonstrated by faculty/staff development, supervision and evaluation

*       Experience with academic accreditation and assessment

*       Experience with adult learners and other non-traditional students

*       Demonstrated strategic planning experience
