A few notes: -Once your letter writer submits his/her finished product to our office the letter is then reviewed and edited by the committee. There are a lot of students and therefore a lot of letters, so please be patient. Your letter cannot/will not be submitted immediately after it is sent to our office. We are working diligently to finalize and upload letters. Remember, it takes several weeks for your application to be verified so DO NOT wait for your committee letter to be complete to submit your application. Once finalized your committee letter can be uploaded very quickly and does not require verification. Submit your applications—do not wait for the committee letter. In order to upload your finalized letter you must: -Release your test scores (MCAT/DAT) -Submit, via e-mail, the AMCAS letter request form and/or the Dental School application request form (this is an e-mail generated from the AADSAS application) -Submit, via e-mail, a PDF of your submitted AMCAS, AACOMAS and/or AADSAS application -AMCAS/AACOMAS applicants must submit check or money order made out to Hunter College: $10 for AMCAS and/or $10 for AACOMAS. Checks can be left in the Pre-Health mailbox in East 812. Make sure they are in an envelope labeled with your name. Please remember the information in your Pre-Health file is confidential; students cannot view the documents in their personal file. * Advising and Walk-In Hours * There will be no walk-in hours on August 8, 15, 22. Very often, I receive e-mails asking if Dr. Phillips will be holding her office hours. Please check the Pre-Health website rather than sending an e-mail. Whenever hours are canceled or changed the information is posted here: http://www.hunter.cuny.edu/prehealth/advisement/walk-in-advising no later than the early afternoon hours are to be held. Always check the website before coming to Hunter. Also remember that the sign-in sheet goes up at 3:45 and is usually full by 4pm. If you want to guarantee yourself a 15 minute spot during walk-ins arrive by 3:30-3:45 and plan on waiting until your walk-in appointment. Advising appointments are only posted 1 week in advance; not for the entire month or semester. Check at the end of each week for the available appointments for the following week. * Kaplan Review Course * Even though school may be out for the summer, Kaplan is not. The Brooklyn Children’s Museum of Brooklyn, NY, is offering an exceptional opportunity for education and experience working with the Live animal department. This internship opportunity is being made available to those interested in pursuing a career in animal husbandry, zoo management, education, and related fields. BCM has housed a live animal collection for over 100 years, the primary functions of which are as a tractable collection utilized in exhibitions, as well as an exhibited collection. It includes more than 75 individuals, primarily representing reptiles, amphibians, marine/ freshwater aquatics, and insects. In addition, the Live collection department conducts field collection of freshwater and marine species of fish and invertebrates throughout the South shore and Hudson Valley. General Statement of Duties The animal care intern is responsible for assisting the animal care team in the daily care and feeding of collection animals, including the cleaning and maintenance of exhibits. In addition, the intern will provide assistance with field collection of local marine species to be utilized in the museum’s “Touch Tank” and various exhibits, and assist with public exhibitions when necessary. Responsibilities Assist animal dept. with daily care of the animals in their exhibits and holding areas. Maintain exhibits and holding areas in a clean and presentable condition at all times. Assist in the observation of the animal collection for signs of illness, general lethargy, injury, and dietary problems. Must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to climb ladders/stairs/fences, lift and carry crates/animals/feed weighing 50lbs. Responsible for other duties as assigned by the animal care team. Must have strong communication skills as speaking with the general public is required – this will include adults and children of all ages. Requirements Requires a high school diploma or GED certificate; prefer candidates that are pursuing a degree in a zoological related field; schedule may include weekends, holidays, and evenings as assigned; must commit to a schedule; valid drivers license, boating, swimming, and SCUBA certifications a plus.
