Join us this season as we explore the darker side of science!

[Science and the Seven Deadly Sins]<https://ams.nyas.org/nyasssa/ecmssamsganalytics.click_through?p_mail_id=E149423A4587255B1C29983>

Science is often presented as a highly sterile field that only trades in facts and figures. But, of course, like all human endeavours, science is messy and unpredictable, and just as susceptible to human failings as any other pursuit.

This fall we'll be exploring some of the darker sides of science, and also some science that explores the darker sides of life.

Featured speakers in the series include:

Mariela Alfonzo, PhD (urban design researcher)
Kaid Benfield (urban planner and sustainable community advocate)
Gregory Benford, PhD (physicist and science fiction author)
Stuart Firestein, MD (scientist and author, Ignorance: How it Drives Science)
Harold Garner, PhD (physicist and government advisor)
Daniel B. Jernigan, MD & MPh (public health expert at Center for Disease Control)
Danielle N. Lee, PhD (animal behavior researcher)
Ian Lipkin, MD (virologist and science advisor on blockbuster film, Contagion)
Ivan Oransky, MD (founder Retraction Watch)
Christina Peppard, PhD (scientist and ethicist)
David Quammen (award-winning journalist)
Gregory Benford, PhD (physicist and science fiction author)
Brian Switek (journalist and author Written in Stone: Evolution, the Fossil Record, and Our Place in Nature)
Paul Zak, PhD (neuroeconomist and author Moral Markets: The Critical Role of Values in the Economy)
and many others!

Each event will include indulgent receptions afterwards, as well as opportunities for you to interact with our speakers and one another.
