Subject: Healthy School Fundraising Resources

Given the high rates of childhood obesity and children's poor diets, many schools are reconsidering whether selling low-nutrition foods is an appropriate way to raise money. In addition, as many of you know, USDA will soon propose nutrition standards for competitive foods (including fundraisers) sold in schools. While identifying and initiating new fundraising strategies can be a challenge, many practical and profitable healthy fundraising alternatives are available.

We've pulled together a number of examples of schools that have successfully implemented healthy fundraisers (see attached or http://www.cspinet.org/new/pdf/healthy-school-fundraising-success-stories.pdf). We hope you will find these useful and invite you to use or share them with your networks. We already had available a fact sheet on healthy fundraisers (http://www.cspinet.org/new/pdf/Healthy_School_Fundraising_Fact_Sheet.pdf) and a list of healthier options (http://www.cspinet.org/new/pdf/Fundraising_Ideas_Fact_Sheet.pdf).

Below are a few model tweets and a Facebook post for your convenience.

Facebook Post:
For many people, "school fundraising" is synonymous with "bake sale." But, more and more schools are reconsidering whether bake sales are an effective and appropriate way to fundraise. Instead of asking parents to make, sell, or buy unhealthy baked goods, why not try one of these successful fundraising ideas: http://www.cspinet.org/new/pdf/healthy-school-fundraising-success-stories.pdf What are YOUR favorite healthy fundraisers?
