Changes in the Pre-Health Advising Office

Pre-Health Coordinator and Advisor, Kelly Gentry, is no longer on campus and therefore unavailable to meet with students. She WILL be reachable by e-mail for an undetermined amount of time. Students will be notified of any changes.

The new Pre-Health Advisor is expected to be in her office on October 24. We are excited to welcome her! As soon as she gets settled in, there will be updates sent regarding her advising hours.

SUNY Downstate, Office of Minority Affairs, is coming to Hunter to discuss paid summer opportunities for students who consider themselves disadvantaged. There are opportunities for students interested in medicine, physician assistant studies, physical therapy, research and early entrance into SUNY Downstate College of Medicine. Committee Letter Application Workshop
October 31 @ 1pm
Location: 1036 Hunter North

Dr. Phillips, the Director of the Pre-Health Advising Office, will be reviewing the process for receiving a committee letter and what the letter incorporates. The workshop will include a review of the committee letter application and a sample committee letter. This workshop is intended for students who will be applying in Spring/summer 2013 for entrance in Fall 2014.

Physical Therapy Open House/Information Session for Future Applicants

Informational session events consist of a formal presentation about pursuing a career in Physical Therapy at Hunter College/Graduate Center of CUNY, followed by a question and answer session. For optimal benefit to those attending, please arrive by the starting time. Detailed information is provided about the curriculum, the application process, prerequisite requirements, and outcomes of recent graduates. There will be adequate time for answering questions during this session, which is located in one of the PT classrooms. Current students may be available to speak with you. New York University College of Dentistry Fall 2012 Impressions Program.

Attached is the application for admission into the event. Complete the application and submit it to [log in to unmask] Applications are due November 1st, 2012. Seating is limited and will be granted on a selective basis.

Workshop includes:
- Discussion on what it required for entry into dental school by NYUCD's Director of Admissions
- Discussion on how to finance dental school: Scholarships, Grants, and More
- Mock interview: to prepare the applicant for the dental school interview
- Impression Taking: Get a glimpse into life as a dentist

GLOBAL DENTAL BRIGADE

Join Columbia University’s Dental Brigade to Honduras, January 9-15, 2013 to bring access to dentists and dental care to in-need communities. Get hands on experience in the field, shadowing licensed dentists as they perform fluoride treatments, teeth fillings, and teeth extractions to community members who don’t have access to dental care. Student volunteers also have the opportunity to teach preventative dental care workshops to adults and children. For every 1 volunteer, an additional 111 patients are provided with preventative dental treatment!

Speaking Spanish is not mandatory and translators will be provided during the brigade.

SUNY College of Optometry Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP)

The SUNY College of Optometry is proud to offer the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) for underrepresented and/or economically disadvantaged college students (freshman to seniors). This great opportunity allows students to experience and learn about the field of Optometry while shadowing optometrists at our University Eye Center. Students receive a stipend and make great connections with optometrists, residents and students.

Winter Program Dates: Students can apply for our Winter Session taking place from January 2, 2013 to January 11, 2013.

Deadline: The deadline to apply is December 7, 2012
