The Paradox of Overnutrition in Aging and Cognition<https://ams.nyas.org/nyasssa/ecmssamsganalytics.click_through?p_mail_id=E160228A4909456B1C32724>

This conference is aimed at presenting cutting-edge research on linking overnutrition, aging and cognition. While overnutrition and cognition must be well defined and appropriately measured for the elderly population, they may also serve as indicators for accelerated aging and for assessing potential risk factors. Various strategies including the use of imaging and metabolic markers, as well as the identification of predictors in the aging process such as aging-related physical impairment need to be employed to understand the linkages between overnutrition and the aging process especially its cognitive aspects. This symposium will explore these linkages from a clinical and epidemiological perspective. The audience includes students and scientists working on aging and nutrition research and their application in preventive and curative medicine.

A Global Research Agenda for Nutrition Science<https://ams.nyas.org/nyasssa/ecmssamsganalytics.click_through?p_mail_id=E160228A4909456B1C32725>

This conference will present a research agenda for nutrition science developed in collaboration with the World Health Organization and many global experts. It will emphasize the continuum starting from identifying research gaps, to dissemination, advocacy and eventually influencing policies and practices. This research agenda will become an effective tool to address the nutritional problems of today and those of the future, and provide a basis for creating dynamic collaborations among research institutions and implementing agencies, effective dissemination of scientific knowledge, and consensus building among stakeholders.

The Good Fat: Understanding Adipogenesis and Function of Brown Fat<https://ams.nyas.org/nyasssa/ecmssamsganalytics.click_through?p_mail_id=E160228A4909456B1C32726>

This conference is aimed at presenting recent developments in the field of adipogenesis research. Animal studies suggest that Brown Adipose Tissue (BAT) levels are associated with diet-induced obesity and the effects of aging. This symposium will explore the origin of BAT, how White Adipose Tissue (WAT) may be converted into BAT-like tissue, and how to enable the pursuit of BAT as a therapeutic target. The audience includes students and scientists working on fat metabolism and nutrition research and its application in preventive and curative medicine.

Probiotics, Prebiotics, and the Host Microbiome: The Science of Translation<https://ams.nyas.org/nyasssa/ecmssamsganalytics.click_through?p_mail_id=E160228A4909456B1C32728>

In the past decade, researchers have observed a strong convergence of prebiotics, probiotics, and the microbiome in areas of host physiology such as the immune system, metabolism, and neurological function. This 1-day conference will serve as a neutral forum to critically examine the potential population-wide economic and public health benefits of translating this research into innovative functional foods and biotherapeutics for a broad spectrum of conditions including obesity, diabetes, inflammatory and gastrointestinal disease, and malnutrition. Participants will apply the rigorous standards of evidence-based medicine and evidence-based nutrition to evaluate and outline novel research and policy strategies to advance the incorporation of prebiotics- and probiotics-based applications to improve public health.

*Call for Poster Abstracts. Deadline: Friday, March 22, 2013.

*Call for Young Investigator and Underrepresented Minority Travel Fellowship and Child-Care Grant Applications. Deadline: Friday, March 22, 2013.
