Be Part of the Effort to ACCURATELY Count Homeless People on the Streets of New York City. SHADOW COUNT 2012 IS CURRENTLY RECRUITING PAID VOLUNTEERS TO SERVE AS DECOYS
Overnight on Monday, Jan 28th into Tuesday, Jan 29th

SHADOW COUNT will take place the night of Monday, Jan 28th – Tuesday, Jan 29th between Midnight and 4:00 AM. (Volunteers are required to check-in at and assigned staging site by 10:00 PM Monday night).

Shadow Count utilizes paid volunteers (decoys) to help DHS determine the numbers of people left outside the shelter system and in need of additional outreach/programmatic services. Volunteers will be paid $75 and must attend a training session prior to the count.

On January 28th, the NYC Department for Homeless Services (DHS) will send thousands of volunteers to neighborhoods throughout the city to count the homeless. On that same night, The Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College, on behalf of DHS, conducts the Shadow Count -- an independent evaluation that assures accuracy of the City’s annual HOPE 2013 Street Survey (Homeless Outreach Population Estimate). The Shadow Count sends out decoy pairs to be “counted” by HOPE Enumerators.
