We are seeking highly-motivated, talented staff for its new Childhood Obesity Advocacy collaboration with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation!

The new initiative, beginning in February 2013, is focused on pursuing state and local policy that directly impacts childhood obesity. We are currently working to build a team that both aggressively pursues the mission of this initiative while also being a strong fit within the culture and standards of the American Heart Association.

We are currently seeking candidates for:


Regional Campaign Managers (Three Positions Available)
The Regional Campaign Manager is responsible for effectively building the capacity of local and state obesity and advocacy organizations, through hands-on field consultation, coaching and technical support, using the Advocacy Organization's Strategic Technical Assistance Model. Regional Campaign Managers will take an account management approach to build trusted partnerships with local funded states and communities that will facilitate the successful development and implementation of customized and strategic technical assistance plans in collaboration with the Hubs and other RWJF-funded programs, supporting AHA Affiliate Staff, external organizations and public policy coalitions working to advance the Advocacy Organization's public policy priorities to address childhood obesity. Assistance to organizations and coalitions will encompass the entire range of policy change activities including strategic campaign planning, bill drafting, media, grassroots, grasstops and coalition development and management.

This is a full-time, grant funded, benefit eligible position. The location for this position is flexible. There are 3 positions available.
Manager, Campaign Research
The Manager, Campaign Research will be responsible for the overall coordination of tactical resources. These resources will be brought together from various sources, including current AHA expertise, existing RWJF funded programs, Hubs, and external organizations such as CDC and other public health partners. This position supervises the Media Advocacy Manager, Grassroots Advocacy Manager, Policy Research Manager, and Project Coordinator for Campaign Research.

This is a full-time, grant funded, benefit eligible position. The location for this position is flexible.

Grassroots Advocacy Manager
The Grassroots Advocacy Manager is responsible for strategic volunteer engagement, development and coordination of field technical assistance, and coordination of national grassroots assets. This role will manage the AHA relationship with PreventObesity.net, which will increase the website's alignment with the AHA's grassroots campaigns.

This is a full-time, grant funded, benefit eligible position. The location for this position is flexible.
Media Advocacy Manager
The Media Advocacy Manager is responsible for providing expertise, tools, and training to move policy priorities forward and position the campaign for success, including the development of media advocacy toolkits to train state and local coalition advocates and resources for communicating with the media with a goal to promote public debate, and generate community support for changes in state and local policies.

This is a full-time, grant funded, benefit eligible position. The location for this position is flexible.

Policy Research Manager
The Policy Research Manager is responsible for providing expertise in science, legal, and public opinion research including polling, focus groups and other research. This position will manage relationships with the RWJF legal and policy research grantees. This person will co-lead a team with our Media Advocacy Manager that will include a national message development consultant, representatives from each Hub, other appropriate RWJF grantees, other partners if necessary and internal communications experts, and will collect and analyze all public opinion research and to identify common themes and items that deserve further research. This person will also be responsible for providing technical assistance when needed to help design new research projects at the local, state and national level, and to manage relationships with policy research programs of RWJF to assure these valuable research efforts are brought to bear in the field of obesity policy change.

This is a full-time, grant funded, benefit eligible position. The location for this position is flexible.

Manager, National Partnerships
The Manager, National Partnerships is responsible for the overall management of national partnerships and ensuring strong relationships between the Advocacy Organization and the Hubs, as well as the Advocacy Organization and other RWJF Grantees. This work will include identifying roles that need to be filled and coalition members that might fill those roles, facilitating communication between coalition members, and setting up an appropriate structure for disseminating key information to coalition members. The National Partnerships Manager will also oversee efforts to strategically engage organizations not already involved in reducing childhood obesity.

This is a full-time, grant funded, benefit eligible position. The location for this position is flexible.

Priority Populations Manager
The Priority Populations Manager will be focused on ensuring that those populations most impacted by obesity are well represented in our national coalition, and are tied into the work of Hubs as well as state and local coalitions, and will work to diminish the influence of our opponents within the priority populations. This position will collaborate with the Directors of Field Consultation and Field Technical Support, under the direction of the National Partnerships Senior Manager, to support focusing direct resources into tailored policy efforts in high-disparity and low socioeconomic status communities and populations. The Priority Populations Manager will work to identify and strategically engage other organizations and coalitions working in this specific space with the capacity to support and enhance the goals of the Advocacy Organization.

This is a full-time, grant funded, benefit eligible position. The location for this position is flexible.
