Project Director Position

United Community Centers (UCC) is a multi-service community-based organization located in East New York, Brooklyn. For more than fifty years, UCC has been a front-line service provider in one of New York City's most underserved neighborhoods and has worked to respond to the changing needs of our community. Our current programs encompass: an affiliated day care center for 165 pre-school and school age children; ESOL and civics classes, immigration assistance; community-wide condom distribution, intensive HIV/AIDS prevention and women's health education; and East New York Farms!, an urban agriculture project.
About the Project: UCC has been awarded a three year contract to implement a community level HIV prevention project for Black and Latina women in East New York, starting in March 2013. We are seeking a Project Director to supervise and implement program activities for the RAPP It Up project.
RAPP (Real AIDS Prevention Project) is an evidence based HIV prevention intervention, designed to reduce risk for HIV and unintended pregnancy among women in communities at high risk by increasing condom use. RAPP targets sexually active women of reproductive age and their male partners. This intervention relies on peer-led activities, including community outreach, condom distribution, small group safer sex discussions, and community events. It also involves building a network of community businesses to support our distribution of condoms and health information.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Responsible for the implementation, coordination, budgeting and monitoring of all components of RAPP It Up.
2. Provide direct supervision and support to two outreach specialists and 10 peer educators.
3. Facilitate health education workshops, focusing on women's health and HIV.
4. Develop, nurture and maintain relationships with local businesses supporting the project.
5. Meet regularly with evaluation consultant to assess project.
6. Maintain regular communication with funders –NYC Department of Health & Mental Hygiene and Public Health Solutions.
7. Write reports to funders, including financial reports and details of progress and challenges associated with the project.
8. Coordinate ongoing in-house and/or outside training to support professional development of project staff and peer volunteers.
9. Develop educational and promotional materials for project.
10. Report directly to Executive Director
11. Any other assignment that may arise in connection with the fulfillment of the above responsibilities.


Qualifications
- Master's degree in public health, public health administration, or other related social sciences; significant experience may replace advanced degree.
- Substantial knowledge of HIV prevention interventions, theories of behavior change, understanding of HIV/AIDS/STDs and the underlying social issues.
- Experience in front line community health programming, such as facilitating health education workshops, community outreach, or other health promotion activities.
- Supervisory experience a plus.
- Practical experience in human resources and financial management.
- Bilingual, English/Spanish a plus.
- Dynamic self-starter who is passionate about community health.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with administering evaluation tools.

Overview

Hunger Solutions New York is a statewide nonprofit organization that strives to alleviate hunger in New York State by increasing access to, and promoting participation in, federal nutrition assistance programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) (formerly the Food Stamp Program), Summer Food Service Program, and School Breakfast Program. The organization advocates on the federal, state, and local levels for legislation and policies that will improve federal nutrition assistance programs. Hunger Solutions New York also administers the Nutrition Outreach and Education Program (NOEP), through which it conducts public education and outreach efforts across the State and subcontracts with 37 community-based organizations located throughout the State. NOEP subcontractors develop community based outreach campaigns for SNAP, the Summer Food Service Program, and the School Breakfast, and assist potentially eligible households to apply and receive SNAP benefits.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be an efficient, organized, and detail oriented individual with proven ability to work autonomously and as part of a team. Must be a clear communicator with analytical, writing, and advocacy skills. College degree and knowledge of federally-funded nutrition assistance programs required. Responsibilities

The SNAP Policy Associate will assist the SNAP Policy Specialist with policy and advocacy efforts and contribute to the training and technical assistance provided to NOEP subcontractors.

SNAP Policy Associate Responsibilities:

· Assist in the development of annual advocacy priorities for the organization, including researching data and working with federal, state, and local partners.
· Assist with developing and maintaining community e-newsletters and the SNAP Center web pages.
· Assist with monitoring articles and current research around the SNAP program, and updating the organizational blog as needed.
· Manage SNAP network data base.
· Assist with training NOEP subcontractors on SNAP guidelines and budgeting.

The Museum of Food and Drink (MOFAD) is seeking a Research
Assistant to get in on the ground floor as we build a first-of-its-kind food
museum in New York.
