HIV Nutrition Specialist
Gay Men's Health Crisis [GMHC] is the world's first and leading provider of HIV/AIDS prevention, care and advocacy. The HIV Nutrition Counselor is responsible for screening and assessing clients for nutritional risk factors and food insecurity. They will also provide nutrition screens, assessments, reassessments, health care updates and counseling for clients. The Specialist provides nutrition counseling for those clients who require more in depth nutrition intervention, and, in addition, provides food pantry services for those clients that are identified as food insecure. This position will create, conduct and develop educational/advertising materials for group nutrition classes. The HIV Nutrition Specialist carries out a variety of activities that relate directly to an assigned program or project. This person participates in setting his/her own objectives and priorities, and follows through in accordance with established procedures as well as recommends changes to improve work systems or procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities of the HIV Nutrition Specialist include, but are not limited to:

· Provide nutrition screens, assessments, reassessments, health care updates and counseling for clients.

· Create and conduct nutrition group education classes for clients.

· Develop educational materials and advertising for group nutrition classes.

· May develop and provide educational workshops to community based organizations and hospitals on issues related to nutrition and HIV.

· Provide technical assistance to community based organizations and hospitals on HIV nutrition related issues.

· Utilize internal and external services via referrals based on determined need(s) of client.

· Provide mentorship to Dietetic Interns.

· Distribute pantry bags, order food from vendors, accept food deliveries and follow proper food safety precautions.

· Embraces the value of volunteerism at GMHC, utilizes harm reduction principles and client centered counseling, and keeps abreast of developments in the HIV epidemic.

Education: Bachelor's Degree and Registered Dietitian (RD) required.

Experience: Familiarity and experience with public and private contract requirements and performance based contracts. This individual should possess experience performing nutrition counseling with an HIV/AIDS population and knowledge of or interest in complementary therapies. An understanding of Microsoft Office Suite necessary.

Related Skills/Knowledge: Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills required. This position requires interaction with other departments within GMHC and external agencies. Bi-lingual Spanish is preferred.

Seeking 2013 Summer Nutrition Intern at 1-Acre Youth Farm

The Youth Farm is a unique partnership between the High School for Public Service and Green Guerillas. It is a 1.1 acre diversified production farm engaging the school community and surrounding neighborhood in farm-based experiential learning. Farm products are sold at a weekly farmers market increasing community access to fresh affordable food.

We are seeking applicants with experience in both nutrition and education to join the Youth Farm staff as the Summer Nutrition Intern for our Summer Youth Farmer Program. Program runs from July 3 – August 24 with an orientation week based on your availability and planning hours interspersed from May 15 – July 3. The applicant should be an enthusiastic self-starter with experience in public nutrition, lesson planning, team management, and motivating and inspiring teens. The ideal candidate should be equally comfortable taking initiative and working collaboratively in a close-knit team environment. While farm knowledge is appreciated, it is very important that applicants have experience and/or are interested in mentoring youth in leadership roles. Roles and responsibilities include:
