Dear CUNY Students,

Every year, 6.9 million children under the age of 5 die of preventable causes. 6.9 million – that’s more than the entire population of the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island combined. And yet, that is the number of children dying needlessly every year.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the world’s leading humanitarian organization for children’s rights, is calling on all CUNY students to join the fight to end these preventable child deaths.

On March 11th, UNICEF launched an exciting new design competition exclusively for CUNY students aimed at improving child survival - Fulfilling the Promise: a CUNY Design for UNICEF Challenge.

Why CUNY and why Public Health students? UNICEF believes that the dynamic and diverse students at CUNY's 24 colleges and schools are equipped to offer the type of innovative thinking needed to tackle complex development challenges. UNICEF is particularly looking to CUNY’s Public Health students to apply their understanding of the health issues in question and the systemic aspects of these challenges to designing effective solutions.

Why join? The top teams will win a chance to travel to a UNICEF field office to test their designs on the ground. However, every participant will make a difference with their energy and ideas. Furthermore, students interested in pursuing their projects after the contest ends could benefit from additional resources that UNICEF has to offer.

Join us, learn about the problems, build a team, design solutions, and change the world!

The deadline to register & form a team is April 19th. Are you in?
