Dear NYCNEN Members and Friends,
We hope that you will be able to join us on Friday, May 10th for NYCNEN's last general meeting, "Developing Partnerships for
a Healthier NYC: A Workshop Exploring Resource Mapping and Cultural Sensitivity." This interactive meeting will include structured networking and mapping NYC
resources and partnerships in our communities that aim to improve health.
The Partnership for a Healthier NYC
will start the discussion by highlighting the work of the Partnership in reducing chronic disease in New York City by supporting proven, community-level efforts, to change the environments in which people make decisions that impact their health.
"Community Cartography: Mapping Health, Justice and Power"
Chris Crews, Adjunct Professor of Political Science at Fordham University in the Bronx will lead
a hands-on workshop aimed at helping participants better understand communities they work with on a regular basis. Using a combination of open discussion and affinity group brainstorming, participants will identify and then create a visual map of resources,
actors, networks and challenges in their respective communities.
Si Podemos: Empowering Underserved Communities through Cultural Sensitivity and Partnerships
Sandra Arévalo,
Director of Nutrition Services and Co-Director of The Starting Right Initiative at Community Pediatrics, a program of the Montefiore Hospital and The Children's Health Fund,
