Mentoring in Medicine Emergency Department Clinical Exposure and Mentoring Program (EDCEMP)
Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY
FREE internship program targeted toward students who are under-represented in medicine or socioeconomically disadvantaged.

Emergency Department Clinical Exposure and Mentoring Program (EDCEMP) is an uniquely designed program began in November 2002. It was developed to offer underrepresented minority premedical students insight into the field of medicine as a career. The curriculum was created to fit into the schedule of busy students who are working and / or taking classes. The program gives the students an opportunity to interact with patients and staff members in the Emergency Department at the Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY through guided volunteering and by the Emergency Department Team, attend seminars on study and test taking strategies and more.
Applicant Eligibility :
• Overall GPA above 2.7
• Interested in pursuing a medical career or other health professional career
• Enrolled in or recent graduate of an undergraduate/ post-baccalaureate program/ graduate institution
• Or currently applying/ reapplying to medical school or other health professional school
EDCEMP Program Requirements:
• 40-hours minimum Emergency Dept. Volunteering shift
• 24-hours minimum Shadowing in the Emergency Dept.
• 24-hours minimum of the Community Health Ambassador Program (CHAMP)
• Pre-Health Advising Session

7th annual UNLV Dental student Simulation Course
May 31-June 1, and June 14-15 are the planned dates for this two day hands on, highly interactive course which allows pre-dental students to get a firsthand view into what it is like to be a dental student at UNLV School of Dental Medicine.
Registration begins April 9th for in-state students, and April 16th for out-of-State students
VOLUNTEER RESEARCH ASSISTANT NEEDED IN DEPT. OF PEDIATRICS AT NYU SCHOOL OF MEDICINE

Bilingual (fluent in both English and Spanish) research assistant needed to assist physician with research projects taking place at NYU School of Medicine/Bellevue Hospital Center Department of Pediatrics and/or Woodhull Hospital.
Projects involve looking at the impact of parent literacy on children’s health, with areas of focus including parent understanding of medication instructions/prevention of medication errors, and childhood obesity prevention.
The research assistant would help with multiple aspects of the research projects, including:
Data collection
- Enrollment of families
- Performing parent interviews and administration of assessments
Maintenance of research data
- Scoring of questionnaires and assessments
- Data entry
Administrative support
- Preparation of materials for assessments
- Ordering/organizing study materials, including incentives for participation and office supplies
REQUIREMENTS
- Fluency in English and Spanish
- Excellent communication and organization skills
- Prior research experience (preferred)
This position also provides a unique opportunity to become involved in research projects with the potential to collaborate on scholarly abstracts / publications.

The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences offers an opportunity to gain research experience in the psychological and behavioral issues experienced by those affected by cancer. Non-Employee (NE) Research Affiliates can gain valuable experience in patient interviewing, survey data collection, data entry, and conducting literature reviews. NE Research affiliates work with research staff and Principal Investigators alike on grants from concept to funding, as well as assist with ongoing research projects.
We encourage students to become involved in this great opportunity as much as they can. This placement provides an excellent opportunity for research career development, no matter what one’s ultimate goal is. Faculty interests include cancer screening, cancer survivorship, psychotherapy process and outcome research, neurocognitive research, palliative care, physician-patient communication, quality of life, risk perception and cancer communication, and pain and substance dependence. Many research projects target urban, medically underserved populations.
Good time management, organizational and communication skills are essential. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, SPSS, and library search engine tools is required.
