Dear Friends and Colleagues,

On September 25, 2013, UNICEF and Columbia University’s Department of Epidemiology will cosponsor an exciting symposium focused around global childhood disability. This event is one in a series of Columbia University Epidemiology Scientific Symposia (CUESS), which are dedicated to exploring cutting edge scientific topics in epidemiology and population health. This series brings together leaders in the field and aims to both explore the state-of-the science and to push the research and programmatic agendas forward.

This symposium will bring together national and international research, policy, and government leaders for a full day of talks and discussion addressing such topics as: why childhood disability matters, disability rights for children, building capacity for assessment, working across the health, education and welfare sectors, and taking interventions to both prevent child disability and to support children living with disability to scale.

This will be an important week for moving the agenda re child disability forward. Notably, the September 25 symposium is taking place in conjunction with the UNICEF Expert Meeting on the Assessment of Child Disability in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (26 and 27 September 2013), in which UNICEF will be discussing its recent initiatives in the area of disability measurement. Our discussions on September 25 will help to inform UNICEF’s future steps in implementing this work.

Attendance is free, but we request that all those who plan to attend register in advance. For more details and to register, please visit CUESS.org.<http://cuepisummer.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ff0afc917a574050450659d2b&id=2f8e41b43d&e=058d530e26>
