Dear MPH Students:

In Fall 2013, I am teaching a new MPH level course PH 770.71 Globalization, Health and Social Justice (Mondays 4:10 to 5:55 pm) at the 119th Street Campus. The course explores how the processes of globalization--the movement of money, people, goods and services, technology and ideas-- across national borders influences health and social justice. We'll look at health in both developed and developing nations and consider a range of issues, from health brain drain to the health impact of foreign direct investment to the rise of chronic diseases in the Global South. The main assignment will be to compare the causes and consequences of a health problem in two different setting in order to analyze the role of global and national forces. The course also seeks to create a cadre of students interested in developing a global health focus for the CUNY School of Public Health. Prerequisites for the course are PH 755 or a year of global health experience and the permission of the instructor. For registration questions, please contact Diane Brows at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>. For questions about the course content, contact the instructor Nicholas Freudenberg at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>. The course is open to Masters students in all tracks and degree programs.

Regards,
Nick Freudenberg
