Food Day - October 2013
As the first fall chill threatens to set in and kids head back to school, plans for Food Day 2013 are heating up here in New York State! Folks across the state have exciting events and actions planned for October 24th and throughout the month, and today we’re sharing a few highlights.

New York City, is getting ready for the 2nd Big Apple Crunch, coordinated by GrowNYC. At 12pm on October 24th, hundreds of thousands will be biting into apples and smashing a world record, all while sending a powerful message about the importance of healthy eating! Sign up to host your own apple crunching event here.

Further upstate, creative Food Day events abound:

Nationally, Food Day is thrilled to announce a partnership with singer-songwriter Jack Johnson. At each of his stops along his From Here to Now to You tour, Johnson and his All At Once social action network will celebrate Food Day by introducing his fans to local and national organizations that work to build a better food system. NYS foodies can see Jack in Saratoga Springs on Sept 21 and in NYC on Sept 23!

Still on the fence about planning your own event? Fear not! This year, many Food Day events are focusing on teaching kids how to cook healthy food for themselves and their families. Take a look at Food Day’s Let’s Get Cooking with Kids resource page, and start planning your own cooking class or recipe swap today!

The Food Day NYS team is here to support you as you work toward your goals. Know that you are being joined by thousands of organizers who are fighting for a more just and healthy food system throughout the state and across the country!
