Upcoming Events

SciMON Program Fair
Weds, October 9 |
1pm – 2:30pm, West Building 3rd Floor Lobby

With over a dozen programs, SciMON can connect you with research opportunities related to medicine, astronomy, geography, and lots of other fields you might be interested in.  But which ones might be a good fit for you? What do they offer other than research experience? And what will the experience be like?  Students and representatives from many of the programs will be on hand to answer your questions and show you how to apply!

Personal Statement Workshop
Weds, October 23 | 1pm – 2:30pm, HE 1203

Applying to graduate or medical school?  One of the key pieces of your application will be your personal statement.  This is the essay that will set you apart as an individual!  So how do you put your best foot forward in writing?  What will readers be looking for and how do you set your personality apart from your GPA?  This workshop will break down the basics and give you some tips as you prepare your applications.

Academic Networking Workshop
Weds, November 6 | 1pm – 2:30pm, HE 1203

Your academic contacts at Hunter will be useful if you’re interested in pursuing research, internships, or graduate work. So how do you approach faculty members? Ask about research opportunities? Or maybe even a letter of recommendation? This workshop will help you build your network.

Harvard Graduate School Admissions Visit
Weds, November 20 | 1pm – 2:30pm, HW 604

SciMON and the McNair program will be co-hosting an information and advising session with Harvard’s School of Arts and Sciences Minority Recruitment and Student Programming Officer, who will be visiting to talk with you about applying to graduate school, financial aid, housing, summer research programs, and more.

AstroCom NYC
Application Deadline: October

The AstroCom NYC program is for students who have an interest in pursuing a career in physics and astronomy. The program matches students with long-term mentors to work with peers on real astrophysics research. The program offers training on all aspects of the field, offering summer research experience, a fellowship that stretches through the academic year and summer, a personal research laptop, and support for travel to observatories and conferences around the world.

Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP)
Spring Application Deadline: November 30

The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation is an alliance of 17 CUNY Colleges and the CUNY Graduate Center. Students participate in faculty research and receive mentoring from senior faculty. The Alliance provides academic scholarship support to CUNY students majoring in the STEM disciplines, making research an integral part of STEM education in New York City.

This academic year-long Research Associate Internship gives students the opportunity to develop basic clinical research skills, learn how to collect data from patients in the Emergency Department, and assist with research-related tasks such as data-entry and analysis.
